Sharks still planning on trading Toskala

Although Toskala signed today, the Sharks will still be shopping him before the deadline. He will now, however, be more expensive to a acquire as he is no longer just a rental player.

Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver remain very interested.

Some Sunday morning rumors...

- Montreal is interested in Coyotes' defenseman Paul Mara.

- Toronto is looking at Jassen Cullimore.

- Vancouver and Philadelphia are interested in Dean McAmmond.

- Ottawa will not go after Curtis Joseph due to his past history with Dominik Hasek. Muckler will not make a move that has a good chance of hurting the team chemistry, and that would be the case with CuJo in the dressing room. Look for Joseph to land in Edmonton or possibly even Montreal.

Every year Pierre Lacroix manages to make a trade that nobody expected, and this year that trade could involve Olli Jokinen. The Avs are very interested in obtaining his services.

Some rumors...

- Vancouver is really pushing hard for a defenseman. Eric Weinrich, Willie Mitchell and Derek Morris are names that I've heard. I've also heard that they are interested in Mike Ricci.

- Teams that are the most interested in Vesa Toskala are the Oilers and Canucks. Ottawa has a mild interest at this point, but will likely target him in the off-season in Hasek retires.

- Ottawa is still interest in Jokinen, but the price may be too high. They also have interest in Martin Gelinas, Steve Rucchin, Mike Ricci and Keith Tkachuk.

- Tkachuk would likely be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to a team with a legitimate Stanley Cup shot. Teams mentioned have been NJ, Philadelphia and Ottawa.

- Colorado is interested in Andre Roy.

- Toronto is seriously shopping Bryan McCabe.

- Joe Nieuwendyk to Calgary is a very strong possibility. It is far more likely than Jokinen at this point. They are also still interested in a depth defenseman, and Sean Hill's name keeps popping up.

Also, for Senators fans and fans of other teams, there's a good new blog at senatorfan.blogspot.com.

Some rumors...

- Toronto is definately not looking to trade Mats Sundin.

- Ottawa is still interested in Olli Jokinen of the Panthers, but the price may be too high. Calgary is also still involved. The Senators are also looking at Martin Gelinas, and has some interest in Vesa Toskala, Jamie McLennan and Steve Shields. Muckler is still going to stick with Emery, but he is not against bringing in a 3rd guy.

- This may sound farfetched, and at this point, its a pretty longshot rumor, but there are rumblings that there could be a deal involving Marian Gaborik, Manny Fernandez and Brad Richards.

We're back!

Well, after our 5 month absence, NHL Spot is back for the sprint towards the March 9th NHL trade deadline. If you have any comments or questions, you can e-mail us at nhlspot@yahoo.ca.

So to start it off, here are some rumblings from around the league:

- Ottawa is looking for secondary scoring help. Ideally, they'd like to acquire a center, and the names Olli Jokinen and Marc Savard have come up. However, the asking price for Jokinen may be too high as John Muckler is not to keen on giving up a roster player, especially for a guy he may not be able to re-sign for next year, and with Don Waddell basically guaranteeing that the Thrashers will be in the playoffs, Marc Savard may not be available come March 9th. If they are unable to grab a center, they wouldn't be against trading for a winger. Mark Recchi is an intriguing possibility.

- The Edmonton Oilers are interested in goalie Vesa Toskala of the San Jose Sharks.
